"Contemporary Narratives in American Printsn examines the current use of printmaking in conveying ideas and images. From its earliest beginnings in the fifteenth century, prints have been the artists medium most concerned with mass communication. This exhibition presents wor1<s by more than forty artists produced during the 1980s and 1990s that reveal their reshaping of the print media to suit their personal visions. The exhibition will be on view at The Whitney Museum of American Art at Champion from November 19, 1999 to February 2, 2000.

Organized by David W. Kiehl, Curator of Prints at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New Yori<, the exhibition was drawn from the Whitney's permanent collection.

The varied images in "Contemporary Narratives" presents personal or social commentaries of individual artists in many surprising guises. There is a sense of choice and hope in the allegorical symbolism of Frank Moore's Vital Signs. Each of the four "landscapes" in this suite are composed of symbols that underscore the message.
