NEW CONTEMPORARY EXHIBITION FOCUSES ON HOME

PROVO, UT -A new contemporary exhibition at the BYU Museum of Art inspects the artistic representation of the house, examines the diversity of elements that define a dwelling, and explores the universal desire to frame home as the center of our lives. "No Place Like Home: Selections from the Sue and John Wieland Collection of Contemporary Art" opens at the BYU Museum of Art on September 18, 2015 and will be on view in the Cannon Gallery through December 5, 2015.

"No Place Like Home" is organized into six sections: the house as an architectural glyph; the home as the cosmic center of the universe; the neighborhood in suburbia; the complexities of the American dream; the home in tragic ruin; and, the home as a framework for the inner psychological world. The exhibition features an extensive selection of paintings, sculptures, photographs, mixed-media pieces and films by contemporary artists including Roy Lichtenstein, Cindy Sherman, Ai Weiwei, Rachel Whiteread, Ed Ruscha, Martha Rosier, Hubbard / Birchler, and Wolfgang Laib.

"We're thrilled to organize this exhibition at the MOA featuring many of the most significant artists of our time. The Wieland family has been extremely generous in lending this important art from their collection, which will be one of the most noteworthy and dynamic groups of artists who've ever exhibited in the state," said Jeff Lambson, Curator of Contemporary Art at the BYU Museum of Art.

Janalee Emmer, Head Museum Educator at the BYU Museum of Art said, "For any of us that have pondered questions about what makes a house a home, or why home ownership is both so desirable and so challenging, this exhibition articulates those questions and encourages our own introspective responses. I think the themes of the exhibition will resonate with our Utah audiences and it will be a rare opportunity to see these artists in our state and at BYU."

The works of art in this exhibition have been generously lent by Sue and John Wieland, owners and founders of the world-class collection of contemporary art known as the wareHOUSE.
